You've found the website for Trembles of Fortune, which is the name I use for my musical projects - if you like classic west coast AOR/yacht rock, blue-eyed soul and jazz-influenced artists such as Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren or Joe Jackson, I'm very sure you're going to like what you hear! There are two full-length Trembles albums so far: the debut self-titled release from 2018, and Sucker in the Promised Land from 2020. They're available for purchase as digital downloads here or at the Trembles of Fortune pages on Bandcamp and CDBaby. Current T of F news (updated August 1, 2026): The third Trembles of Fortune album, which will be titled Next Parade Out of Town, is currently in production, and I expect to have it out sometime late in 2026, with the first singles appearing around early October. I was originally shooting for late 2024 or 2025, but I've had to move it back a couple of times. The silver lining to this is that I believe the extra time will help the album sound even better. It's been a very long time coming, and I'm very much looking forward to bringing you these ten brand new songs soon.
Oh, and another thing: a Trembles song is now on the boat! What does that mean, you ask? Some background: The term “yacht rock” was coined by the creators of the comedy web series by that name from the 2000s (which is hilarious, by the way). Since then, the guys who created the series have done many other yacht rock-related things, including a podcast called Yacht or Nyacht where they rate various songs according to how well they fit the creators' original conception of the genre. They use a scale called the Yachtski scale, where 100 is the yachtiest (the Doobie Brothers' What a Fool Believes) and 0 is not yachty at all. If a song is rated over 50, they put it on the boat, which means it's certified yacht rock. (Some people don't like the term yacht rock, but I'm generally fine with it. Not all Trembles is yachty to my ears, and I certainly don't aim for that. But a lot of the classic bands in that sphere are strong influences, so it comes out that way sometimes. I don't care too much about how people classify my music - I just hope they listen to it and enjoy it.)
The podcast accepts submissions through their Patreon, and one of the administrators of the popular Yacht Rock Nation Facebook group submitted Turn Out the Lights from the second Trembles album (thanks, Meade!) The guys rated it a 64.5, which means it's officially yacht rock (aka “smooth music," from the web series - I'll take that all day!) The website yachtornyacht.com lists all the songs they've rated on the podcast - Turn Out the Lights is featured on episode 145.
